Thursday is always a pretty gentle day.
My son woke up first and read King Arthur to himself
By 10am we had done some really good maths with Multiplication by Heart and handwriting practice, and I was feeling pretty pleased with myself. But in the interests of honesty I confess that I was also still in pyjamas and the house was a disaster. (And as I write this, still is.)
Athletics Club
This afternoon we planted herbs in pots and talked about the different conditions they like, building on our habitats conversations earlier in the week. One of the pots we used was full of old soil which we discovered was home to an ant nest, so we observed the ants carrying the eggs to safety for some time before moving the whole lot to the compost heap. Watching an ant carrying an egg is, it turns out, pretty amazing.
Lots of playing in the garden with friends.
At tea we watched a video of a mother and her young child talking to each other in sign language, following on from my daughter’s session yesterday learning some sign language, and marvelled at how Helen Keller had learnt to communicate when she didn’t even have sight.
Bedtime stories: Splat! and The Worst Children’s Jobs in History (Splat! Is delightfully silly and made it onto my list of Books We Have Loved, age 0-7)
I've just discovered you, only signed up to Substack today so I'm finding my way around, but hi! My kids are really similar ages to yours, 8 (girl) and nearly 7 (boy). I'll look forward to your posts!
I keep a blog as well, more as a way for my kids to look back on their childhood when they're bigger. It's here, if you'd like a look... www.willdiglife.net
