How we homeschooled today #19
Swimming, Romans, and being a bit grumpy
It was a busy weekend. Today, it is only honest to tell you that some of us were a little on the grumpy side. I don’t want to invade my family’s privacy by sharing all the details, but I also don’t want you to imagine it’s always sunshine and flowers at How We Homeschool HQ!
The children read to themselves this morning, Secret Explorers and Time Chronicles.
My son did handwriting and some work in his addition and subtraction book.
Both children did Multiplication by Heart.
My daughter did some spelling and handwriting work combined.
We read the latest post from Classical Wisdom Kids, all about the Colosseum. We put 72AD, the date it was built, onto our wall timeline, and I printed maps for the children showing Roman roads across Europe because they asked about how Romans had moved around the empire and got all the way to Britain. The activity from Classical Wisdom Kids was anagrams of snacks the Romans ate at the Colosseum, which the children really enjoyed puzzling out.
My son spent a long time sitting on his bed and looking/listening to our three Story Orchestra books (Nutcracker, Four Seasons, Magic Flute).
We went swimming. Possibly my top priority for this year is to get the children confident in the water, but getting cold and wet is very uninviting in a British winter. Both children made great progress (in confidence if not in style!) and didn’t want to get out. But of course we were left seriously depleted for the rest of the day. Is there a way to take children swimming without everyone being exhausted afterwards?
