This morning we went swimming again (if you missed it we also went yesterday). Swimming leaves us all rather exhausted so I thought that going early might work better. But alas no. Going early just seems to mean we are exhausted for the rest of the day, and the rest of the day is longer!
This morning my son read several more Times Chronicles books to himself, and my daughter read a Lego book to me (which I found pretty interminable, but she was enjoying it so I tried to keep my inner literary snob under control).
We got to swimming so early that we had time to play in the park and use the outdoor gym before they would let us in to the pool.
This afternoon the children built some very extensive structures with their Kapla planks and then played an imaginary game using them.
When they had their snack we did Multiplication by Heart.
We went out into the garden, watered the pots and seedlings and did some weeding. We talked about why these tasks are important. We hunted for wildflowers in the lawn because it is coming to the end of No Mow May.
We returned to Bringing Back the Wolves, a wonderful book about the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone. We used it to do some maths (eg. 80% of Yellowstone is forest, wolves kill approx 3,000 of 20,000 elk each year and so on) as well as the more obvious science aspect. Then we watched a couple of short videos from The Kids Should See This about the Yellowstone bison herds. I made a mental note that next time everyone is ill we should watch a Yellowstone documentary. At teatime we read some more, and attempted to do some calculations about mice reproduction rates. We got very muddled!
My daughter and I enjoyed doing some of the latest activity from Classical Wisdom Kids, about different types of gladiators (rather ingeniously given a Pokemon theme).
Bedtime reading: Stuff you Should Know about Planet Earth (inside the earth, and tropical rainforests). No reading in bed because they were both too tired.
