If you’re a new sign-up, welcome! I have a daughter, 7, and a son, 5, and this is the daily round-up of how we spend our time. We classify ourselves as ‘unschoolers’, so pretty much everything the children do is voluntary, but I certainly try to put interesting and educational things in front of them.
Wednesday is always a late night for the children, so we keep Thursdays pretty low-key apart from athletics club. But even by our standards this Thursday has been exceptionally quiet.
Independent reading (Usborne’s King Arthur and Ramona the Pest)
Translated another Greek word
Made a nest of cushions on the floor and listened to several episodes of National Geographic Kids Greeking Out podcast
Athletics club
An afternoon of monastic silence, playing with kinetic sand, painting, and arranging toy soldiers. Also multiple episodes of Bedtime History (Big Ben, bees and honey, and Sam the German cat who survived three WWII naval battles) and a lot more Greeking Out. (So not completely monastic.) My daughter painted for so long that her arm hurt from the effort.
Bedtime stories: If you sailed on the Mayflower in 1620 and So you think you’ve got it bad? A kid’s life in Ancient Greece
Reading in bed: None, because they were so tired they voluntarily skipped it!
