If it ain’t broke, break it
We haven’t tried this, because it’s not yet available to try, but I love the idea. A monthly subscription box where children are sent broken toys, that they then fix. The fixed toy is then returned to be broken again for another child—good for the planet, good for your child, and great for not adding to the clutter in your house. Over a twelve month period the child is introduced to key science, tech, and repair skills of increasing complexity, and proper engineering practices.
The idea is the brainchild of five engineers from Imperial College London. It’s beautifully designed, in every sense. You can sign up to join the waiting list here. I’d quite like to have a go myself.
