I think for older readers- maybe high school? The Eagle and the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff is supposed to be a good historical adventure. (I haven’t read it myself but this list had so much historical fiction it brought it to mind!)

Also Elizabeth Laird’s Hiding Out was once recommended by Dixie Dillon Lane as an adventure story - I can’t recall if I saw it here!

You didn’t see it here, but funnily enough I recommended it myself a while ago, and meant to include it in this list, and of course forgot. So thank you for adding it in the comments! Rosemary Sutcliff is a great addition, we have The Armourer’s House in our TBR pile at the moment.

Mine is a bit younger, but Ronja the Robber's Daughter is so beautiful in depicting the young girl's experiences in the woods.

Oh I so agree, my daughter loved Ronja and it is still often the book we measure other books against. We found it thanks to an excellent recommendation from Sarah Miller of Can We Read?

Great list, thank you! I would add Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson.

Amazing list! It was gratifying to recognize many of the titles as ones my children have loved over the years. Each of my children has been drawn to different ones. My youngest is currently obsessed with the Swallows and Amazons series.

One more to add to your list: Freckles, by Gene Stratton Porter, which is a kind of prequel to The Girl of the Limberlost.

This is a fabulous list, and my kids are just to ages to enjoy these books. Thank you for putting it together! I'm intrigued by The Green Book and The Great and Terrible Quest.
