I haven't read it either, is it worth seeking out Catherine? My daughter is 5 going on 6. Currently reading (the first time for both of us) Little House in the Big Woods. We are both engrossed!
My husband read it aloud too! And they loved it so much that my son is now reading it to himself. I’ve never read it so half their conversation is now meaningless to me!
squashing dwarves to jelly and I felt completely out of the loop. Ha. But I'm so in the loop in almost every other way with my sons that it's sort of nice for them to have things that are just their own and their dads.
Love that reading to your children was the way you began and ended your day and minimizing screen time is a conscious effort. Kudos to you - these two things helped make our family's homeschooling journey a success. I wish that same success to you!

We are reading The Hobbit right now too with our 4,6, and 7 year old sons! (well, my husband is reading it with them :) )
