Hahaha! My first words to my 9-year-old this morning were, "Good morning! Do you know what's going to happen later today? I'm going to CRUSH YOU at Prime Climb!! Or...are YOU going to crush ME?!!"
HA! This morning, after both children had sent me back to zero repeatedly, and I had repeatedly chosen not to bump them myself, I told them “that’s it, no more nice Mummy, from now on I’m bumping every chance I get”! Except that when you’re desperate for the game to end you really don’t want to send everyone back to zero…!
Thank you for this post Catherine! I can count myself among the parents of Prime Climb enthusiasts, though we keep a meek yet tacit agreement not to play mean cards against one another.
Spelling is one of those Important Things for me so I use Oxford Spelling, which is a fabulous phonics-based curriculum prepared by the Australian researcher Dr. Tessa Daffern.
Thank you Nicola! Yes, spelling is important to me too and it drives me bananas when I spot spelling mistakes all over the place. I’ll definitely take a look at Oxford Spelling.
All About Reading has a letter tiles app that we've installed on the iPad (I kept losing the dang magnets with all the moving houses). Anyway, my kids think it's amazing because it's a "computer game" (lololol). So I've been asking my 7 year old (just now really having reading click) to "write me a message!" It's a good, organic way to practice a little spelling, because then I can see what he can sound out on his own, and then explain a few rules for why you spell a word this way or that. But very low stress for all of us right now. My oldest reads so voraciously that we haven't done much formal spelling. I suspect he's similar to myself in that he's using the "does it look right?" litmus test for spelling... ha!

I have BEEN THERE.
My kids are ruthless about bumping me!! This morning my youngest (4) commented, "[Older Brother] is so mean at Pwime Cwime!" Hahahaha!
I will have to tell A about the snow leopard! She’ll be impressed, she loves big cats.
Something else "slightly more urgently" needs my attention. This captures this reality well.

I do not know if there is a UK equivalent but here is the link: https://www.oup.com.au/primary/english/oxford-spelling
