We took my then-5-year-old to the Natural History Museum on a quick trip to London from the US in March 2020 (a great last outing before the world shut down!) and she was absolutely OBSESSED with the rock & mineral hall. She could have easily spent hours and hours there! It is such a fabulous museum, she still talks about it and asks when we can return.
That’s so great! I think it’s very interesting that the rock and mineral hall is so appealing, when it’s the most old-fashioned part of the entire museum. Unlike the more ‘family-friendly’, interactive bits that the children (or mine, anyway) often just run around pushing buttons, the peace and quiet of the rock cases is much more conducive to actually slowing down, looking, and taking in information.
