I’m Stephanie, a radical homemaker, part-time sommelier and writer around the edges. I am married to my best friend Daniel (ironically we met in school) and together we are unschooling our two children, aged 6 and 3. We live on the Mornington Peninsula, Bunurong Country, at the bottom of mainland Australia in a small house surrounded by a big edible garden, filled with fruit trees, raised veggie beds, perennial herbs, flowers and five cheeky chooks. It is here, in this house, on this land, that we are co-creating our family culture. We live simply, slowly and in tune with the seasons and value creativity above almost everything. Our days are guided by the tenets of art, nature, books, music, community and food. How we live and learn looks nothing like school, and home is at the centre of all that we do.
Wow this sounds exactly like what I envision for my family one day. How you spend your rest days and the kinds of community and groups/playdates you have available. Did you find like minded parents and establish these things together or were they already in place?
It's what I envisioned too many years ago Le, I believe anything is possible when it comes to designing a life you love! Groups/playdates have evolved over the years. We got involved with Farm School as it is run out of the home of my daughters old Forest School teacher. I co-ordinate our weekly adventure co-op grew which began with a handful of families meeting weekly and has naturally grown over the years and the permaculture group was the idea of a friend and we brainstormed the possibilities together. Community takes time to build though and for me it started with just one other mother I connected with and it's grown slowly from there 💛
Ok neat. I’m looking forward to establishing this kind of community! Thank you for sharing!! I’d move there just for the community if I could, it’s sounds so awesome!!!!!!!! I know I’ll find it here though.

Ah! We were just on the Mornington Peninsula earlier this month! I wish I had known as it would have been fun to meet more homeschooling folks :-)
