There is a whole cohort of children who are officially registered as on-roll but not receiving a suitable education. We have had nearly 3 years where we have got the child to school almost every morning (7 days illness over Y7) but for them to spend most of the day in the library / ‘breakout room’ - supposedly doing supervised work. Or the frequent calls to come and collect as ‘A is deregulated’ - after they had got the all important afternoon registration mark.

Then the months we were on a part-time timetable, while the LA dragged feet on consulting for a more suitable school place.

That’s on top of the ‘persistently absent’ children - which are portrayed as if it was parents taking an easy route.
