This is such a well-argued submission and I hope it is read and taken seriously by those involved at the committee stage. So often the reasons for passing laws, rules and instituting procedures with regard to children appear only to cover people’s backs, not to actually work in the best interests of the children.

This is really great and thanks so much for sharing and encouraging others to do the same. I’m a bit concerned though - did you see the guidelines for submissions? It says that you can’t send in anything that has been published elsewhere… I’m not 100% on the specifics surrounding that (do correct me if I’ve missed something) but I think there’s a chance you may have disqualified this piece from submission by publishing here 😬

It’s ok, it’s already been published as evidence and I made some further additions before I submitted it, so it’s not exactly the same as what I published here.

This is so well written! I hope to also submit something and may include a couple of similar ideas! Thank you for the research into the numbers. It’s so staggering how they will “care” about homeschoolers while simultaneously neglecting children in schools!

There is a whole cohort of children who are officially registered as on-roll but not receiving a suitable education. We have had nearly 3 years where we have got the child to school almost every morning (7 days illness over Y7) but for them to spend most of the day in the library / ‘breakout room’ - supposedly doing supervised work. Or the frequent calls to come and collect as ‘A is deregulated’ - after they had got the all important afternoon registration mark.

Then the months we were on a part-time timetable, while the LA dragged feet on consulting for a more suitable school place.

That’s on top of the ‘persistently absent’ children - which are portrayed as if it was parents taking an easy route.
